Packaging increased source of halal food contamination

It has been reported today byFoodProduction.com that halal foods may sometimes be cross contaminated by the packaging used due to the presence of porcine based stearates used as lubricants in in the packaging production process.

This seems like yet another supplier risk parameter which needs to be fed into supplier approval and supplier management processes for businesses who make halal claims on their products. But surely this could also be an issue for businesses producing vegetarian products as well. In fact the food supply chain impacts of this are probably quite wide spread.
