Supplier approval management conference

Food manufacturers should implement effective assurance systems to monitor their suppliers not just because they feel obliged to, but because it could help to protect their business from the type of damage caused to reputations when something goes wrong.

That was the message delivered last Thursday (5 May) by Nicola Whyte, technical director of quality assurance solutions provider QADEX, at a conference organised to address the crucial issue of supplier approval management.

Nicola told delegates that food companies were sometimes guilty of paying lip service to supplier assurance because they knew they had to have it to satisfy their own customers. However, she said, in fact they should do it simply because it is essential to preserve consumer confidence in a company by helping to prevent damaging and costly product recalls, and the negative press that usually follows them.
