The BRC have formally suspended BRC recognition of NB Certification (NBC – also know as National Britannia) from auditing against all BRC Global Standard certification schemes.
The BRC Compliance Manager will be working closely with NBC to review existing certificates and ensure that appropriate additional safeguards have been put in place to ensure integrity of the BRC scheme.
UKAS will undertake a further audit of NBC early in November to review the corrective actions and establish if the suspension can be lifted.
The BRC press release relating to this can be viewed at www.brcglobalstandards.com
How does this affect your supplier approval management?
Wherever you have a supplier who has a current BRC certificate provided by National Britannia this is still valid. If the supplier has been audited recently and has not received a new certificate may be unable to receive a valid certificate from National Britannia. In this instance the supplier should be making arrangements to be re-audited by another certification body.
All suppliers holding National Britannia certification will have been contacted by National Britannia, so they should be aware of the situation.
What will QADEX be doing on your behalf?
If you are an existing QADEX customer and use our supplier approval management system you will already be aware that we chase suppliers for updated BRC certificates when existing certificates expire. With immediate effect our account managers will ask suppliers which certification body conducted the audit. Wherever we identify that the supplier was audited by National Britannia you will be notified immediately by your account manager.
This situation is unprecedented so we would really appreciate any feedback or comments that you may have using the comments button at the bottom of this blog posting.
