Hot on the heals of the mystery jar of Loyd Grossman sauce with botulism there is another outbreak in sun-dried olives with possible implications for sun-dried tomatoes, capers, artichoke hearts and a range of other products from an Italian site.
At the time of writing there is no alert on the FSA website regarding this, but I would worry that some of this product will have found its way into the UK through food agents & distributors with poor traceability.
Any business sourcing products without detailed food specs or supplier approval in place are exposed to incidents such as this.
Supplier risk is growing as our world becomes more interconnected and supply chain risk management is likely to grow in importance.
Unfortunately as this example shows the impact of getting it wrong can be fatal.
